Early voting is underway in Ohio, and Election Day is just two weeks away.

Aside from the presidency and statewide races, voters within the Talawanda School District will also cast ballots in several contested local races. The Oxford Free Press has talked to candidates in each race and compiled details on their backgrounds and top priorities if elected. Follow the links below for more details on each race.

Voters in Ohio’s 8th Congressional District will decide between the same two candidates for the fourth election in a row this year.

Democrat Vanessa Enoch is once again running against incumbent Republican Warren Davidson for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Republicans currently hold a thin majority in the House, and an upset in a seat the party views as safe could tip the balance.

4th State Senate District: Tom Cooke v. George Lang

Ohio State Senator George Lang, a Republican from West Chester, is facing a challenge to retain his seat this year. Tom Cooke, an Oxford resident who moved to the area in 2021, is running as a Democrat in a bid to unseat Lang in the 4th Senate District, which

Lang was elected in 2020 under a different senate map. That year, Lang’s district covered all of Butler County except for Monroe. This year’s newly drawn senate maps have the 4th district covering all of Butler County except for Milford and Wayne Townships and Trenton.

47 State House District: Vanessa Cummings v. Diane Mullins

Two pastors are campaigning to represent Oxford and Hamilton in the Ohio House of Representatives this year.

Republican Diane Mullins successfully defeated Sara Carruthers, incumbent representative for the 47th District, in a primary this March, earning her party’s nomination. Mullins is facing Vanessa Cummings, a Democrat and Oxford resident seeking election in the reliably Republican district.

Butler County Commissioner Seat: Don Dixon v. Chantel Raghu

For the first time since becoming a Butler County Commissioner in 2007, Don Dixon is facing a contested race.

Dixon, who previously served one term in the 1980s and returned to the role decades later, has run uncontested as a Republican ever since. This year, though, Democrat Chantel Raghu is running against him.

Butler County Commissioner Seat: T.C. Rogers v. Tamara Small

Butler County voters will decide who will represent them in two of the three seats on the Board of Commissioners during this year’s election.

Incumbent Republican T.C. Rogers was first elected in 2012 and has served three terms. During the 2016 and 2020 elections, Rogers ran uncontested. This year, family nurse practitioner Dr. Tamara Small, a Democrat who lives in West Chester, is running to change that.
