Transit authority seeks input for upcoming route changes
Oxford residents and Miami University students will see new bus routes later this year. BCRTA is asking for feedback in a survey as the new multimodal transportation center targets fall completion.
As work continues on the multimodal station on Chestnut Street, the Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) is looking for feedback from Oxford residents and students on new route changes.
Starting in August 2025, BCRTA will adjust the routes in and around Oxford. The change will align with the opening of the Chestnut Street multimodal station on Chestnut Street, a $25.8 million project which broke ground in January 2024.
Starting this fall, all routes will connect to the new station. BCRTA is asking Miami University students, faculty and staff, as well as Oxford residents, to take an online survey to provide feedback for the proposed routes. Participants will have a chance to win a $25 gift card. The survey is open until March 21, and route changes will be announced in late spring.
During an Oxford City Council meeting Feb. 18, two BCRTA staff members presented the proposed routes. The routes incorporated previous studies regarding transportation demand, said transit planner Russ Auwae, and will allow for more consistent intervals.
While the current routes are loops, the new routes would be more linear, which Auwae said would increase efficiency. Right now, he said, “it takes you five minutes to get to campus and 20 minutes to get home, because it depends where you are on the loop.”
