Fall events in Oxford to celebrate the Halloween season

It’s officially October, which means Halloween is right around the corner. Soon, leaves will begin falling off the trees, pumpkins will line the streets and Oxford will be turning orange with tricks and treats around every corner.

To celebrate the holiday, Oxford will be home to a variety of fall festivities this October, ranging from trick-or-treating events to costume contests for local pets. Most of these events are free and open to the public, scattered throughout the month.

Fall Fun Events

Oxford Farmers Market

Every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, the Oxford Farmers Market takes place Uptown. Vendors line the streets and offer different produce, baked goods, handmade items and more. In the fall season, community members can find local products for sale that are in season this autumn.

Apple Butter Festival

Located in Hueston Woods, the 59th Annual Apple Butter Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 5 and 6. The event will feature bluegrass music from DJ John and the Wild Water Bluegrass band.

Proceeds from the event go towards preservation for the Oxford Museum Association. Children under 12 get in for free, admission is $5 per adult and $10 per car. The event will feature a park naturalist, food, alpacas, crafts, children's activities and more.

Oxford Cemetery Historic Walking Tours

If you’re looking to learn more about some of Oxford’s most notable historic residents this fall, Oxford Parks and Recreation, Oxford Lane Library and the McGuffey Museum have you covered. The organizations have partnered to host historic walking tours of the Oxford Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Oct. 12, 19 and 26 this year. Each free tour is limited to 25 people and requires registration at www.cityofoxford.org/oprd.

Halloween-themed Events

Halloween Songs and Stories

On Oct. 17, the Oxford Parks and Recreation Department is collaborating with the Oxford Lane Library on a free event for all ages. Light refreshments will be available for attendees. The event will consist of different Halloween-themed songs and stories, and will begin at 7 p.m.

OPRD Trick or Treat

On Oct. 24 from 4:30-6:30 p.m., the Oxford Parks and Recreation Department willhost a free Halloween event at Uptown Parks. The event will consist of a trick or treat event for local businesses, a pet costume contest at 6 p.m. and the Lions Club Halloween Parade at 6:30 p.m.

The event will also have free candy, games and entertainment, as well as face-painting, magicians and a balloon artist. This is a collaboration with the Oxford Lions Club and the Cincinnati Circus.

FRIGHT NIGHT: Double feature

The Oxford Community Arts Center and Enjoy Oxford are collaborating on a spooky double feature on Oct. 25. At 5:30 p.m., the organizations will screen “Beetlejuice” (1988) followed by a showing of “The Night of the Living Dead” (1968) at 7:30 p.m. Both films will play in the arts center building.

Tickets for the event are free but space is limited, so attendees are encouraged to reserve tickets for one or both movies at www.oxarts.org to ensure a spot is available.

AP Church Fall Fest

Hosted by Baby Cakes Mini Pancakes, the AP Church is having an event at their location on College Corner Pike. There will be food trucks, treats, games, a corn made, hayrides and more, according to Facebook.

At the event, a Trunk-or-Treat will take place to celebrate Halloween and the fall season. The event will be held on Oct. 26 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Howl at the Moon

From 5-8 p.m. on Oct. 29, the Oxford Community Arts Center will celebrate Halloween with a variety of fun-filled activities during its Howl at the Moon event. The festivities will include games, a haunted maze, free snacks and more. Everyone is encouraged to show up in-costume, and the day will include a special Trick-or-Treat event for younger kids at 6 p.m.

Neighborhood Trick or Treat

In the traditional Halloween fashion, Oxford’s Trick-or-Treating event will take place on Oct. 31. Children and community members can dress up and ring doorbells to get their Halloween candy. It will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and houses handing out candy should leave their porch lights turned on.

Pumpkin catapults

For those with leftover pumpkins from the Halloween holiday, the TRI Community Center will be hosting a pumpkin catapulting event on Nov. 1 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 6025 Rd. Attendees can bring their own jack-o-lanterns and pumpkins to launch for free at the event.
