The Oxford Folk Club is set to hold two community dances in partnership with the Oxford Community Arts Center (OCAC) during this academic year.

The first dance is set for Nov. 1, while the second is scheduled for March 7, 2025. Both will be held in the OCAC Brant Ballroom at 10 S. College Ave, according to a press release from the Folk Club.

Both events will focus on contra dancing, an American folk dance style that originated in New England and is similar to square dancing. No experience is required, and each dance will be taught and prompted by caller Steve Edwards. Edwards has been involved with Oxford contra and square dances since the Folk Club began hosting them in 1982, and he calls regularly in Cincinnati.

Attendees do not need to come with partners. The event begins at 8 p.m. with an introduction for beginners at 7:45 p.m. and costs $7 for residents or $5 for students. Jericho Old Time Band, a local group based in Oxford, will perform traditional dance music for the event.
