Letter to the Editor: Enjoying spring and Silvoor Stories

Holly Wissing writes that she's excited to read more of Silvoor Stories, the Oxford Free Press' newest regular column.

Letter to the Editor: Enjoying spring and Silvoor Stories
Last week, the Oxford Free Press launched Silvoor Stories, a new column by Amanda Bentley Brymer, curator of Silvoor Biological Sanctuary. Holly Wissing supports the new column in her letter to the editor. Photo by Amanda Bentley Brymer

I’m so pleased to see that the Oxford Free Press is continuing the tradition of Silvoor Notes, a long-running column in the Oxford Press written by the late Robert Hefner. Silvoor Stories by Amanda Bentley Brymer, the hard working curator of our local wildflower preserve Silvoor Biological Sanctuary, looks to be a worthy successor. I hope readers will enjoy her nature observations and take time to visit Silvoor this spring. The decades-long tradition of free wildflower walks every Sunday (1 p.m.—meet at the Peffer Park pavilion) continues this year.  The walks began March 30 and will run through Mother's Day, May 11, but you don’t need to be on an organized walk to stroll through the preserve and realize what a special place it is.

Hueston Woods (Big Woods Trail is always good) , Indian Creek Park (Springfield Road entrance) and Silvoor Sanctuary all provide close-by opportunities to watch the miracle of spring unfold. Every week, starting now, you’ll see something new blooming in the woods.

Signed,

Holly Wissing
