Letter to the Editor: Plans for a potential arena on a central campus site
Sue MacDonald, a Miami University alumna, writes that she opposes the idea of putting a new arena on central campus.
My brain could not believe what my eyes were reading when I encountered an article about my alma mater considering Slant Walk and other central campus sites for a new arena to replace Millett Hall. Really?? Great way to destroy the character of an iconic Ohio college town and a beautiful campus, Miami. Every other alum I've talked to agrees it's a ridiculous idea.
Here's an alternative: Build a new arena in the huge lawn in front of the current Millett, and then use the site of the old Millett for parking. Keep MU sports activities on the North Quad area of the campus instead of ruining beautiful, open spaces elsewhere. And please don't ruin one of Ohio's and the country's most beautiful campuses with what the world does NOT need — another giant athletic arena.
