The Miami Redhawks soccer team picked up its second win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Northern Kentucky on Thursday, Aug. 29.

Miami took advantage of two penalty situations to secure the win. Senior midfielder Makenna Morrison converted on a rebounded save from a penalty kick, and senior forward Kylee Beinecke took a successful penalty shot after an NKU handball.

Taylor Hamlett added the third goal on a header from Maris Jennings to carry the game.

Later, on Sept. 1, the team took on its one of its toughest challenges of the season so far, hosting #21 South Carolina. The Redhawks battled SC to a 0-0 draw with goalkeeper Dominique Popa tallying four saves and her second shutout of the season.

Miami’s record now stands at 2-1-2 for the season, with an additional win against Eastern Kentucky and a second tie against Tennessee Tech. The team’s loss came from its matchup against Indiana State on Aug. 22.

The soccer team will take the field again at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, to face off against Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana. The next home game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 19 against Northern Illinois.
