The Reily Township Trustees deliberated, interviewed and chose the replacement for Trustee Tim Miller at its Aug. 6 meeting.

Trustees Nicholas Schwab and Dennis Conrad interviewed Walter Minges, Danielle Foulk and Roger Koch during an executive session to determine who gets the position.

They appointed Walter Minges.

"[I want] to serve the community," Minges said. "The guys have been on here for years, Denny and Nick, and then, of course, Tim had to resign. They've been doing a good job, and I just wanted to keep it going, to keep the township running smoothly and keep improving everything."

The board approved and swore Minges in once the executive session ended.

Jeremy Sears, the road superintendent, presented an application for a $4,500 Oxford Community Foundation grant to help fund the Reily cemetery remapping project.

Jeremy said Miami University geography students would go out to the cemetery, map out where 500 to 600 graves are, where any available space is and then enter the information into a data base in an attempt to move away from paper records.

"One of the main reasons why I wanted to do this so we could actually see what we have available," Sears said. "Because there isn't a lot [of grave lots] available."

The grant funds would go toward all the university labor, the technology needed, the headstones and the geographic information system, said Ron Tilford, the Board of Trustees fiscal officer.

"It's actually going to be a huge job, but by them doing that, it will at least give us a start," Sears said, "It'll be huge for us to be able to secure that."

The board unanimously agreed to submit the grant application for the cemetery mapping project.

The next Reily Township Trustees meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21.
