JoAnne S. Hagerman, age 98, of Oxford, Ohio passed away Feb. 22, 2025. She is survived by her close-knit family of four children (Douglas, Ann, Ruth and John) and their spouses, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Her loving husband of 46 years, Dwain Douglas Hagerman, pre-deceased her in 1996.

JoAnne was born May 3, 1926 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She had a happy childhood on a small family farm at the base of Mt. Werner and loved to share her memories of skiing off the barn roof, riding a horse to school and Sunday picnics in the mountains. During those years, she became an accomplished flautist, pianist, and vocalist. She earned her BS in Chemistry from Colorado State University in 1946, her MS in Biochemistry from The University of Colorado Medical School in 1948, and her Masters in Library Science from the University of Denver in 1971.

In addition to raising her family and working outside the home, JoAnne was an active volunteer in the community. She was proudest of her role as mom and family matriarch. JoAnne and Dwain resided in many different states, as well as Australia and Scotland.

JoAnne loved to travel and visited many parts of the world with local Oxford friends. She loved family picnics the most of all. The family would like to thank the staff at the Knolls of Oxford for their loving and supportive care of our mother over her years as a resident, as well as the staff at the Bethesda-Butler Hospital for their compassion and their respectful care of JoAnne. A private memorial service will be held this spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford Food Pantry (https://www.topss.org/), a cause near to JoAnne’s heart.
