OPD responds to multiple thefts, mental health crises
The Oxford Police Department responded to multiple types of theft and mental health crises between Feb. 17 and 24, though less thefts than the week before.

The Oxford Police Department (OPD) responded to three thefts between Feb. 17 and 24, including one theft of a motor vehicle. During that same time period, the department responded to two suicidal individuals and one “female in crisis” who was taken to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, according to an OPD media report.
The first theft involved a Feb. 17 incident of fraud regarding laundry repairs, according to the media report. Later that day, a woman reported that a known person had stolen her motor vehicle. The third reported theft, which occurred Feb. 21, was reported by a man who never received a package.
In the previous week, OPD reported four thefts, including one scam. One Feb. 12 theft involved air conditioning units stolen from an apartment complex.
One of the two suicidal individuals OPD helped transport to the hospital was a minor. The female in crisis who was transported to McCullough-Hyde was placed on a 72-hour hold once there.
OPD also collected a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, or SANE, kit from McCullough-Hyde on Feb. 23. SANE kits are used to preserve evidence in the event of sexual assault. OPD also reported collecting a SANE kit on Feb. 11.
The Miami University Police Department’s 60-day crime and fire log lists nine sex offences, including five categorized as rape, since Jan. 20. The most recent was reported on Feb. 16.
Between Feb. 17 and 24, OPD also responded to one incident of criminal damaging, three related to underage drinking, an alleged assault and one charge of criminal mischief.
