OPD responds to domestic violence and theft cases
Aside from two high-profile incidents with major police presence, Oxford police responded to domestic violence, theft and other calls last week.
Beyond a barricade situation involving a SWAT team and an FBI operation involving a bomb squad, the Oxford Police Department responded to a variety of reports from domestic violence to an unattended rifle and stolen packages between April 14 and 21.
At 7:55 p.m. on Friday, police responded to reports of a fight at an apartment complex near Talawanda High School. The officer heard a screaming match with a female voice yelling: “don’t hit me” and “give me my phone” repeatedly, according to an OPD media report. The officer then observed a male holding the woman by the throat and pushing her out of the apartment.
The two were separated, and the male was found to be visiting from out of state. He was detained and arrested for domestic violence. Police responded to another altercation the same day but were unable to tell what happened due to “conflicting stories.”
On April 14, police responded to a report that an underage girl had been sexually assaulted. Police responded to multiple other harassment cases throughout the week, including one person receiving inappropriate text messages.
On April 17, a business owner on Lynn Avenue reported a rifle left on his property, and the rifle’s owner has not been located.
Police also reported multiple instances of theft, including shoplifting on High Street and a package stolen from Fox and Hounds apartments.
