Oxford Township reports electric bill savings for residents

Oxford Township's new electric aggregation program saved residents an average of more than 20% in the first four months. The Township Trustees also prepared for 2025 by approving a meeting schedule and discussing winter road maintenance.

The Oxford Township Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting on Dec. 9. The Trustees approved financial reports for the month ending Nov. 30. Fiscal Officer Roger VanFrank reported that he completed end-of-year training as presented by the Auditor of State's office.

Road Superintendent Johnny Smith's written report indicated that he and his assistant have salted the roads three times so far this winter. The new dump truck has been sent back to the dealer to correct wiring deficiencies. Weather permitting, he will undertake some cut-and-base road repairs in early January.

Police Chief Patrick Piccioni reported that department activity in the past month included 109 calls for service, 11 of which were accident-related. Officers took 21 reports, made 15 traffic stops, issued four citations, made two arrests and responded to six calls for assistance from neighboring police departments. He and Major Jeff King presented their recommendations for purchase of new department firearms to ensure that all officers in the department carry identical weapons.

The Township has received a report on electric aggregation performance from Energy Alliance Inc. Township residents who are customers of Duke Energy and who opted to participate in the Township's aggregation program have saved, on average, $64.55 during the first four months of the program. This represents an average savings to each customer of 21.9%. Township residents who are customers of AES and who opted to participate have saved, on average, $107.45 during the first four months of the program, an average savings of 27.2%.

Numerous items of annual organizational business were approved, including the schedule of regular meetings for 2025. Regular meetings will be on the second Monday of each month and on Dec. 29, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Following an executive session, the Trustees approved a pay increase of 3.5% for all Township employees. Additionally, they approved increasing the hourly rate for new hires in the Police Department by one dollar per hour.

The next regular meeting of the Oxford Township Trustees will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30 at Township Hall. Virtual attendance is possible.
