The Oxford Township Board of Trustees held its regular monthly meeting on July 8. The Trustees approved the financial report for June, along with the 2025 Tax Budget. This is an annual report to the Butler County Budget Commission which establishes preliminary figures for the next year's revenue and appropriations. Fiscal Officer Roger Van Frank expects that the bi-annual audit will be completed by July 31.
The Trustees discussed possible paving projects for 2025 and created a shortlist of roads for which paving estimates will be prepared by the Butler County Engineer's Office. One or more of the following roads will be paved in 2025: Taylor Road from Contreras Road to US 27, Booth Road from the railroad tracks to the Township's maintenance limit east of Booth Road, Oxford Milford Road (portion maintained by Oxford Township) and Indian Creek Road (portion maintained by Oxford Township). Discussion items included nuisance properties on Stillwell Beckett Road, Booth Road and Hazel Drive.
The Trustees passed a resolution to formally allocate $150,000 in funds from Butler County's American Rescue Plan Act grant to TOPSS and Oxford Seniors. The funds will be split evenly between the two agencies according to contracts and procedures that are expected to be established at the August meeting.
Trustee Kate Rousmaniere announced the application she made to Butler County Metro Parks for a Community Grant was approved. The Township will be reimbursed for up to $1,500 to be spent for a bench at the Oxford Township Cemetery on Brown Road. A plaque on the bench will honor past Trustees who oversaw the cemetery's renovation approximately 20 years ago.
Road Superintendent Johnny Smith reported that his focus in coming weeks will be the usual summer mowing, brush cutting and pavement patching. Lieutenant Jeff King reported for the Police Department, noting that the previous month's activity included response to 136 calls for service and four traffic crashes. The department performed 39 traffic stops resulting in six citations, logged 12 reports and made five arrests. Department personnel responded to 16 calls for assistance from neighboring police departments. King also reported that the department had an intern in the first half of the summer and expects two more interns for the second half of summer and for the fall.
The next regular meeting of the Oxford Township Trustees will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 12 at Township Hall. Virtual attendance is possible.
