The Rotary Club of Oxford’s Stars & Stripes program is turning 10 next year.

Since 2015, the Stars & Stripes program has funded a variety of initiatives in Oxford. While a main focus is providing flag displays to 842 subscribers, the funds raised through the program contribute to scholarships and other community-focused initiatives, including contributing to a clean water project in Mexico.

For people who subscribe, the Rotary Club will install a sleeve and display American flags on subscribers’ properties for Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day and Labor Day.

Jonathan James, director of club service and former president of the Rotary Club of Oxford, said in an email to Oxford Free Press that the program looks forward to its future and growing its participation.

“As a small town, we take pride in the things that support connection and the development of community,” James said. “The Oxford Community Stars & Stripes Program is as much about Oxford as it is about the Oxford Rotary Club who is the organization that leads the way to make this happen.”

For new members who sign up by Oct. 28, the program will cost $45 to have a flag displayed on Veterans day and throughout 2025, according to a press release from the Rotary Club. Existing members can also pay $45 to renew for 2025 by Oct. 28 and will get a 15% discount for multiple flags at one location. The standard price is $50 per year.

The flags are delivered by the Rotary Club with help from seven partners. There are 22 delivery routes within a five-mile radius of Oxford, and those involved help distribute the flags and work on fundraising for the program.
