The City of Oxford will host a town hall event to share details on a code update and get feedback from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 24 in the Presbyterian Seminary Building at 104 E. Church St.

This year, Oxford contracted with McKenna, a planning and design firm, and Preservation Forward, a historic preservation firm, to create a Unified Development Code (UDC) for the city. According to the Oxford Today website, the goal of the UDC is to “streamline planning and zoning processes” by creating easy-to-navigate regulations for residents and developers.

During the town hall, residents will have a chance to learn more about the goals of Oxford Today, the city’s name for the process of developing the UDC. Attendees will also be able to provide feedback on their preferences for Oxford’s future development. Oxford will hold an additional community workshop in early 2025, according to a press release from McKenna.

Residents can also take a survey and add comments to an interactive map on the Oxford Today website.

McKenna is also creating a historic preservation plan and historic district design guidelines for Oxford. City Council approved a $199,000 contract with McKenna for its work on both historic elements and the UDC during a July meeting.
