Two new members sworn in to College Corner Village Council
After most village staff and a majority of the village council resigned this summer, College Corner has officially started to fill positions. Two new council members were sworn in at an August meeting.
Brandi Singleton and Tom Caudill have officially been sworn in to the College Corner Village Council.
Since June, more than half of the members of the village council have officially resigned, including William Bake, Wesley Cedar, Mike Ruther and Brian Toothman. The resignations came after months of turmoil as the council's newest members and Mayor Molly Cason clashed with village staff over access to records. Cedar's resignation came most recently on July 30.
The village's fiscal officer, Jennifer Woods, also resigned after her contract, which granted her 120 days of paid sick leave per year, became a point of contention. Woods' father, Mike Sims, had been volunteering as the village administrator, but he has since resigned, as well.
Singleton and Caudill were sworn in at a meeting Aug. 8.
The village also lost its attorney after council member Danyell Bolser sued the village for access to the budget, a public record. The village is set to work with Roetzel and Andress Law for legal services, though no contract has been signed yet.
Cason said at the meeting that the village struggled to pay some of its bills in July due to the lack of staff. Everyone's water bills from last month, however, have been "paid, posted, processed but they're probably not received yet," Cason said. She added that West College Corner has also been paid for sewer services.
According to reporting by WCPO, College Corner is facing a state ethics investigation, which Cason told the channel she's cooperating with to determine if there has been any misuse of village funds.
